Coast Guard rescues seven from cargo ship off Dominican Republic
U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crews hoisted seven crewmembers to safety after their cargo vessel Capitan L began taking on water 46 miles south of Saona, Dominican Republic, the Coast Guard said Monday.
The Capitan L's crew reported a leak, and the vessel was adrift and out of fuel late Saturday, leading to separate rescue missions — on Saturday and Sunday. The crew included four Dominicans, two Haitians, and one member from Finland.
The crewmembers were taken to a hospital in La Romana, and the vessel was towed to a repair facility in the Dominican Republic, the Coast Guard said.
