Coast Guard shuts down day cruise vessel for safety The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday it has cited a Port Canaveral-based casino cruise ship for 24 alleged safety deficiencies, electing not to renew its certificate of inspection and forcing a halt in operations until all the problems listed in the citation are fixed.
   The 308-foot Surfside Princess, a U.S.-flagged vessel owned by Sun Cruz Casinos,    will not be allowed to embark passengers until the crew has repaired deficiencies and the vessel passes a Coast Guard inspection, as statement from the Coast Guard said.
   The Coast Guard cited four 'major' deficiencies: a 20- to 50-gallon-per-minute leak in the ship's main engine coolant system, a leak in the ship's fir main that was running on an electric panel, a single inoperable fire pump among those on the vessel, and discrepancies with the vessels fire screen doors.
