Colonial Terminals has opened Foundation 3, a new 25-acre multimodal breakbulk facility on the Savannah River, expanding capacity and connectivity for bulk and project cargo moving through the Port of Savannah region.
The terminal, designed for 24-hour operations, adds direct vessel access via an 810-foot heavy-capacity dock, onsite rail yard with more than 14,000 feet of track, terminal-operated switching, and rail-served warehouse access. It connects to Class I rail service through Norfolk Southern and offers highway access via interstates 16 and 95, for seamless transfers across ship, rail, truck, and warehouse operations.
Foundation 3 includes two warehouses totaling 130,000 square feet, including a newly renovated dockside site, and a 75,000-square-foot concrete outdoor storage area, with adjacent acreage reserved for future expansion.
The facility can handle steel, forest products, project cargo, palletized goods, super sacks and other general cargo, with both union and non-union stevedoring services available to match customer needs.
Colonial Terminals in a release says the new infrastructure is intended to ensure the region, known as a world-class container gateway, is equally competitive for bulk and breakbulk markets.
“Foundation 3 reflects our continued commitment to investing in the infrastructure, capabilities and services our customers need to grow,” said Troy Gouger, vice president of operations at Colonial Terminals. He added that the facility expands the company’s ability to deliver reliable, multimodal solutions and strengthens Savannah’s position as a gateway for breakbulk and industrial cargo.
