Comments sought for miscellaneous trade legislation petitions

The U.S. International Trade Commission has started accepting comments on petitions seeking temporary duty suspensions and reductions in accordance with the 2016 American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act.    The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has started accepting comments on petitions seeking temporary duty suspensions and reductions in accordance with the 2016 American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act.
The legislation allows petitioners who can demonstrate that they might benefit from a duty suspension or reduction to submit those petitions to the ITC. The petitions were submitted to the ITC between Oct. 14 and Dec. 12, 2016.
The public has been given 45 days, starting from Jan. 11, to submit comments to the commission regarding those petitions.
Along with the comments, the ITC will evaluate the petitions and determine whether they meet statutory requirements. The commission follows this by submitting its preliminary and final reports to the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees for their use in developing the next miscellaneous tariff bill.
Anyone wishing to comment on a petition must file those with the commission through the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill Petition System on the ITC’s website. Comments must be received by the close of business on Feb. 24. No other method of filing will be accepted, the ITC said.
