Con men invoke name of the FMC    The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission said it has learned of a scheme that uses the agency's name to perpetuate a scam on consumers.
   The FMC issued an alert Monday to warn consumers about fraudulent e-mails and correspondence that are being placed under FMC letterheads and to warn individuals not to respond or provide personal information.
   The fraudulent e-mails and correspondence claim recipients have won a lottery or sweepstakes and need to pay taxes and insurance to get the prize.

   The FMC warns the public not to send money in response to the queries, and asks instead that recipients of similar e-mail messages or correspondence contact the FMC Inspector General’s Hotline.
