Con-Way opens new employee facility for southwest states    Transportation firm Con-way Truckload said it recently opened a driver orientation facility in Phoenix, Ariz.
   The new site joins 11 similar facilities around the nation that are used to provide new Con-Way employees with a required new hire orientation program.
   The five-day program offers new Con-Way drivers the opportunity to complete the required paperwork, learn about the firm's policies and procedures, take the Department of Transportation-mandated physical exam and road test, as well as other activities.
   The Arizona facility is part of the Joplin, Mo.-based firm's 12-month plan to hire more than 250 experienced professional truck drivers from several western states, including Arizona, California Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico.
   Con-way officials said that prior to opening the Phoenix site, new hires from the southwestern United States had to travel to the closest existing sites in El Paso or Laredo, Texas.
