Connecticut group to fete COSCO chief The Connecticut Maritime Association said it will honor Capt. Wei Jiafu, president and chief executive officer of China Ocean Shipping (Group) with its 2009 Commodore award at its annual conference and trade show March 23-25.

   Jiafu has been the head of COSCO Group since November 1998. Prior to that, he was the senior executive in subsidiaries of COSCO both at home and abroad. As president of COSCO (Singapore) Ltd., he oversaw the company becoming a publicly listed company in 1993, marking COSCO’s first entrance into the international capital markets.
   With more than 10 years of seafaring experience, Wei is also a senior engineer with a doctorate in ship and ocean structural design and manufacture and a master’s degree in shipping.
