Conrail to add 10-mile second track in central N.J. Conrail is adding a second track between Edison, N.J., and Bound Brook, N.J. to decrease bottlenecks in the area and increase efficiency.
   Conrail already owns the property, making the venture a straightforward project. Tim Tierney, chief engineer at Conrail, said that there are no complications as of yet and that Conrail has already successfully networked on a town and state level. “All the administration work is done,” he noted.
   The project, barring issues such as weather, should be completed by the end of 2007.
   The addition of the second track is an attempt to operate more efficiently in the area and eliminate the stopping and starting that has been occurring. Tierney stated that Conrail is “building for the future” and preparing for capacity needs ahead of time.
   Little construction is needed because the area used to have multiple tracks. Conrail removed the second line in the 1980's because of different needs, but look forward to handling more business after the restoration.
