New Delhi-based Petronet LNG Ltd. and a consortium of ocean carrier’s comprising NYK Line, MOL, “K” Line, and Shipping Corp. of India (SCI) have signed a 25-year charter agreement for a new liquefied natural gas carrier.

The 154,800 cubic meter vessel will be built by Korean Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. and is expected to be delivered into service September 2009.

Petronet is the first LNG importer in India, and has imported 5 million tons of LNG a year from Qatar since 2004, using two LNG carriers operated by the same consortium.
