Construction begins on UPS’s China hub
Express delivery carrier UPS said last week it has begun construction of its new Asia hub in Shenzhen, China. The air terminal and package sort facility will replace its existing regional hub at the former Clark Air Base in the Philippines.
The $180 million facility at Shenzhen’s airport, situated to take advantage of China’s booming manufacturing sector, is expected to open in 2010 and cut a day off transit times for Asian customers. It is designed to handle 18,000 packages per hour with expansion capacity of 36,000 packages per hour.
