Containerships Group adding Norway, Denmark to network

Finland’s Containerships Group has decided to focus on larger vessels and add Norway and Denmark to its European short sea network.

Containerships said it will focus on using 700-TEU to 900-TEU vessels and will bring Fredrikstad in Norway and Aarhus in Denmark into its system that already calls at Gdansk, Hamburg, Helsinki, Klaipeda, Liepaja, Rotterdam, Soderjtale, St Petersburg, Teesport and Tilbury.

“This new system brings our whole network into one coherent whole, proving shippers right across Europe and Russia with a fast, frequent and above all secure and reliable door to door service for their goods,” said Sigurjon Markusson, Containerships’ managing director. “We are especially pleased to be able to add new direct water services to key Scandinavian ports, as their economies are closely linked to the fast growing Baltic States and Russian markets.”

Containerships is majority-owned by Icelandic shipping and logistics company Eimskip and now operates nine vessels in the Baltic and North Seas moving about 350,000 TEU annually.
