Continental’s 2nd quarter profit up 15%

Continental’s 2nd quarter profit up 15%    Houston-based Continental Airlines posted a net income of $228 million in the second quarter, up 15.2 percent compared to $198 million in the same three months last year.
   Continental’s operating income in the latest quarter improved 7.8 percent to $263 million, up from $244 million in the comparable year earlier period. Total revenue was up 5.8 percent to $3.71 billion although revenue from cargo slipped 2.7 percent to $109 million.
   After six months of 2007, Continental reported net income of $250 million, an 89.4 percent increase froom $132 million in the first half of 2006. Operating income for the period was $327 million, up 28.2 percent from $255 million last year. Revenue was up 6.8 to $6.89 billion with cargo revenue down 0.9 percent to $216 million.
