Contrasting fortunes at SoCal ports continues in July

   Container volume in July at Southern California’s ports continued to trend in opposite directions, with Long Beach’s throughput rising 7.6 percent year-on-year and Los Angeles’ dropping 1.5 percent.
   Total throughput at Long Beach rose to 562,166 TEUs during the month, while it fell to 715,640 TEUs at Los Angeles. For the year, Los Angeles’ total volume is down 6.5 percent to 4.4 million TEUs, while Long Beach’s is up 13.2 percent to 3.7 million TEUs.
   Import volume at Long Beach rose 12.9 percent year-on-year in July to 294,926 TEUs, while exports rose 6.2 percent to 132,290 TEUs. At Los Angeles, import volume fell 0.3 percent to 370,746 TEUs, while export volume fell 4.8 percent to 157,586 TEUs. – Eric Johnson
