Copenhagen Malm÷ PortÆs cargo volume rises 10% in 2006

Danish/Swedish port complex Copenhagen Malm' Port (CMP) handled 16.6 million tons of cargo in 2006, up 10 percent over the previous year.

   The increased cargo volume boosted CMP's profit by 16 percent to SEK80 million ($11.4 million).

   The number of cars handled by CMP rose almost 30 percent, with 440,000 cars passing through the quays and rail links. Ferry traffic between Sweden and Germany rose 15 percent and container imports improved 13 percent to 175,000 TEUs.

   For 2007, CMP expects to process a half-million new cars, and see container throughput rise 10 percent.
