Corzine new N.Y.-N.J. Waterfront Commissioner

Corzine new N.Y.-N.J. Waterfront Commissioner    New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine has named a former country prosecutor to be the state’s representative at the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, a week after a report by New York State’s Inspector General alleged corruption and a “total breakdown” at the agency.
   On Monday Corzine appointed Barry H. Evenchick to be New Jersey’s commissioner at the agency, which is supposed to fight waterfront crime and regulate the labor supply in the port.
   Evenchick served as chief of the appellate section of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office from 1965 to 1968. He also served as deputy attorney general and chief of the appellate section of the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice from 1970 to 1972, and as a member of the Supreme Court Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure.
   He served on the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation from 1987 to 1993; as counsel for the National Advisory Committee on Criminal Justice, Standards and Goals; and in 2007 was appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey to the Advisory Committee on Extrajudicial Activities. He is a member of the state, federal and American bar associations and is a member in the law firm Walder, Hayden & Brogan.
   'As a former prosecutor and a well respected lawyer in the legal community, I am confident that Barry is the right person that will help restore the public's trust and clean up a commission that has been tainted with fraud and abuse,' Corzine said.
   Evenchick replaces Michael J. Madonna who was removed last week by Corzine with a letter that said the commission “was failing to function properly while under your oversight.”
   The New York commissioner (there is one from each state) has also changed. Michael Axelrod's term expired last year and he was replaced in September by Ronald Goldstock.
