China Ocean Shipping Company entered its latest post-Panamax vessel, “COSCO Shanghai”, into its weekly Asia/Europe Sino-Northwest Europe service.

The ship is the first in a series of seven new 5,400 TEU vessels that will replace the existing ships of 3,800 TEUs on the service. The 3,800 TEU ships will be transferred into the transpacific trade.

The Sino-Northwest Europe service calls Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp.

Once all seven of the new ships have been phased into the service, annual one-way capacity will have been increased by 83,200 TEUs.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and Yangming Marine partner COSCO on the service as joint members of the unnamed alliance but market the service as “China Express” and “China Europe” respectively.
