COSCO Pacific December throughput up 1.2%

COSCO Pacific December throughput up 1.2%    Hong Kong-based terminal operator COSCO Pacific saw its December throughput rise 1.2 percent in December, with gains in Nansha, Tianjin and Qingdao offset by continuing declines at Shanghai, Yantian and Hong Kong.
   COSCO's Nansha facility, in the western Pearl River Delta, saw volume rise 18.7 percent to 222,000 TEUs in December, while Tianjin saw a 13.6 percent increase to 187,000 TEUs. Volume at the two terminals in Qingdao in which COSCO has a stake rose 5 percent to 841,000 TEUs.
   But volume fell 17 percent at its Shanghai terminals to 464,000 TEUs, 13.8 percent at its Hong Kong terminal to 101,000 TEUs, and 13.1 percent at its Yantian terminal in the Port of Shenzhen to 749,000 TEUs.
   Overall throughput at COSCO's 17 Chinese and four international terminals rose to 3.92 million TEUs in December from 3.87 million in December 2008. Among the international terminals, the Suez Canal Container Terminal saw volume spike 11.9 percent to 232,000 TEUs.
