COSCO Pacific sees 1.5% growth in December COSCO Pacific said Tuesday its global throughput for December rose 1.5 percent to 3.8 million TEUs, reflecting dampened container trade through China.
   Seventeen of the terminal operator’s 20 facilities are in China, including flagship terminals in Yantian and Qingdao. COSCO operates two terminals in both Qingdao and Shanghai and both sets saw marginal growth in the month, compared to the same month in 2007. The biggest drop-off came in the Pearl River Delta, where throughput was off 25.5 percent at COSCO’s Hong Kong terminal and 10.2 percent at its Yantian terminal. Also, the growth rate at Nansha came back down to earth, at 22.6 percent, though its growth for the year is 246 percent. For the year, the Hong Kong terminal has seen a 5.5 percent reduction in volume, while Yantian has grown 3.4 percent.
   For the year, COSCO Pacific’s terminals saw 17.7 percent, to 45.8 million TEUs.
