COSCO Pacific volume driven by PRD ports

Volume throughput at South and Southeast China terminals headlines 6 percent rise in January, with growth in the Yangtze and Bohai regions virtually non-existent.    Container throughput for the global terminal operator COSCO Pacific rose 6 percent year-over-year in January, aided by strong growth in the company’s Pearl River Delta region.
   Volume at COSCO’s four Pearl River Delta terminals rose 8.5 percent to 1.7 million TEUs. Terminals in the Southeast China region has growth of 31.7 percent to 369,800 TEUs.
COSCO also saw heady growth at its terminals outside of China, with an 11 percent year-over-year growth to 780,000 TEUs at its four overseas facilities.
   Terminals at COSCO’s two biggest port clusters – in the Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Bay regions – saw more muted growth in January. The five terminals in the Bohai Bay region had collective volume of 2.1 million TEUs, an increase of 1.4 percent.
   The six terminals in the Yangtze region had virtually no growth at 0.1 percent to 895,400 TEUs.
