Coune leads OECD’s International Transport Forum

Coune leads OECDÆs International Transport Forum    Carole Coune of Belgium has been named secretary general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's International Transport Forum.
   Coune replaces Jack Short of Ireland, who has led the forum and its precursor, the European Conference of Ministers of Transport, since 2001. Coune was elected Friday during the forum's annual summit in Leipzig, Germany.
   The International Transport Forum is a global platform for transport policy issues. It acts as a think tank for member countries and organizes an annual summit, at which ministers debate strategic issues of the sector with business leaders, top academics and representatives of civil society.
   'I am certainly looking forward to the challenges ahead in the transport sector which is becoming ever more globalized,' Coune said in a statement.
   Coune started her transportation career with the Belgian National Railway, where she was secretary to the management board and led the Department of International Affairs. After several years' experience in the policy group of the Belgian Minister for Transport and the Minister for Public Transport respectively, Coune became director general for land transport for the Belgian Ministry of Transport in 2005. In 2008 she became president of the ministry's management board.
