CP to shut down Calgary maintenance facility

   In the coming months, Canadian Pacific will shutter its locomotive reliability center at the Alyth Yard in Calgary, eliminating 130 positions.
   The decision stems from the Canadian Transportation Agency’s order for the railway to stop idling operations and “load testing” near the center at night. Canadian Pacific officials maintain that stopping work between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. would lead to “productivity challenges for service and maintenance work of locomotives.”
   The locomotive work previously handled by the Calgary facility will be transferred to other locations, according to a company press release.
   “Alyth Yard will continue to serve as an important rail yard operation for CP, as it has for more than a century,” the company sated. “The CTA decision does not impact other 24/7 railway activities taking place in the yard.”
