Creel sworn in for third term as FMC commissioner

Harold J. Creel Jr. was sworn in Monday for a third term as commissioner of the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission.

   Creel was nominated to the third term by President Bush Nov. 16, and confirmed by the Senate Nov. 20. He served as FMC chairman from February 1996 to August 2002. His new term expires on June 30, 2009.

   Prior to his FMC appointments, Creel was senior counsel to the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee’s Marine Subcommittee. He held this position from October 1989 to October 1994. Earlier, Creel was an attorney with the Commerce Department’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
