Crowley adds reefer containers
Crowley Maritime Corp. said Wednesday it has added 457 new, high-cube refrigerated containers and 380 power packs to its reefer equipment for its Latin America, Caribbean, and Puerto Rico services.
“We are responding to the needs of our customers by making the necessary investments to allow them to be successful with their perishables shipments,” said Tom Crowley, Jr., chairman, president and CEO. “Refrigerated cargo is a large part of our business in both Central America and the Caribbean. Providing customers with clean, modern and reliable equipment is essential.'
All 457 reefer containers were manufactured in China by Maersk Container Industri AS.. The new containers include 228 that are equipped with ThermoKing refrigeration units and 229 that are equipped with Carrier refrigeration units. Crowley said 50 of the new generator sets are a nose-mount design and 330 have a chassis-mount underslung design, allowing the company to meet the varying needs of shippers.
The containers have been delivered to Crowley in Jacksonville and Savannah.
Charlie Dominguez, Crowley vice president of sales and marketing, Latin America services, explained how the new equipment will improve service.
“These state-of-the-art, stainless-steel, high-security reefers will enhance our fleet for the upcoming season, giving our customers greater opportunities to ship their fresh and frozen commodities, safely and securely,' he said. 'Combining this new equipment with our multiple, weekly, fixed-day sailings, is another aspect of our ‘Speed to Market’ service in the Caribbean and Latin America.'
