Crowley, City of Hollywood help Dominican town

Crowley, City of Hollywood help Dominican town    Crowley Maritime Corp. and the City of Hollywood, Fla. have joined forces in a goodwill effort to get a first-ever fire rescue truck to Higuey/Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
   Last June, the Hollywood City Commission voted to donate a retired 1995 Custom Body Freightliner rescue vehicle to its 'sister city' of Higuey/Punta Cana. However, the resolution also stated that Hollywood cover shipping costs.
   Officials in Higuey/Punta Cana said their municipal budget couldn't cover the costs.
   So Jos' Zaiter, Hollywood's director of community and public relations, proceeded to contact Crowley vice president of operations for Latin America Michael Hopkins to seek the company's assistance.
   'After explaining the situation to Mr. Hopkins, he agreed to help and started the ball rolling to make the shipping possible at a minimal cost.' Zaiter said.
   Crowley loaded the rescue vehicle Sunday in Port Everglades aboard the vessel Crowley Sun. It is scheduled to arrive and be discharged Wednesday in the Dominican Republic.
