Crowley donation honors Marty Johnson
Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime Corp. Monday presented a $250,000 check to the Webb Institute, a Glen Cove, N.Y.-based college of naval architecture and marine engineering, in the name of former Crowley employee Marty Johnson, a Webb Institute graduate who died last year while on a company assignment.
The donation creates the Marty Johnson Leadership Program at Webb. In addition, Crowley will provide an annual scholarship award of $10,000 for one or two juniors or seniors as part of the ongoing Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship Program.
Presenting the donation to the Webb Institute, Ed Schlueter, Crowley vice president vessel management services, said: “We have experienced the talent that has been developed by the Webb Institute. Marty Johnson was one such talent that made a permanent impression on all of us at Crowley who had the pleasure of working with him. We hope that this donation will not only preserve Marty’s memory but will also lay a foundation for those students like him currently enrolled so that they too may excel upon their graduation.'
