Crowley Liner gears up for seasonal volumes

Crowley Liner Service says it will add another vessel to its Virgin Islands and Eastern Caribbean service on Friday to accommodate growing volumes for the peak holiday season.

Crowley said it had acquired the use of a third container vessel, the Pine Valley, which will make its first sailing from Port Everglades to St. Thomas on September 22. The additional lift-on/loft-off (Lo/Lo) vessel has a capacity of 245 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and will increase overall capacity to the Virgin Islands by 17 percent.

“Crowley understands that our customers need additional capacity during the peak shipping season,” said Rudy Leming, Crowley’s vice president, Bahamas and Caribbean services. “We are responding by introducing this third vessel to help them expedite their cargoes.'

The added vessel joins the 600-TEU-capacity vessels Sea Cloud and Sea Gale in the rotation, which features a call St. Thomas every Sunday followed by calls in St. Croix, Trinidad, Barbados and St. Vincent. Additionally, Crowley provides service to the islands of Anguilla, Montserrat, Nevis, Saba, St. Barts, St. Eustatius, St. John, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Bermuda, Canouan, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Tobago via relay service.
