CSA strengthening ties with regional organizations

CSA strengthening ties with regional organizations The Caribbean Shipping Association has started to explore ways it can build stronger ties with other entities in the Caribbean that are involved with international trade and transportation.
CSA President Fernando Rivera and Carlos Urriola, vice president, have embarked on a strategy of strengthening relationships, holding preliminary talks with Carlos Gallegos, executive secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Ports, which is a committee within the Organization of American States.
The talks will hopefully lead to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the OAS and CSA that could provide the framework toward joint actions and development activities, Rivera said.
In addition, the CSA plans to initiate talks with the Caribbean Community (Caricom), the 15-nation organization working toward a common market structure for the region. The CSA is already affiliated with Caricom as a 'social partner' group with observer status.
'We will meet with key members of other organizations in the region with the purpose of enhancing and expanding our relationships,' Rivera said. 'Generally, we have the same developmental goals with those organizations, although we try to accomplish them with different approaches and directions. 'Unity is strength' and the CSA must work closely with other regional bodies to ensure development for all our peoples.'
