CSAV chairman dies

Ricardo Claro Vald's, 74, chairman of Chilean shipping company Compa''a Sudamericana de Vapores, died Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack while attending an opera premier the prior evening, according to the Santiago newspaper El Mercurio.

   Chile’s Vice President Edmundo P'rez Yoma called him a “very reputable, well-known man in Chilean society.”

   According to El Mercurio, he also was an owner of the Mega television station, Diario Financiero, and Capital magazine and had links to other companies such as CristalChile, Elecmetal Saam and Vi'a Santa Rita.

   CSAV and its subsidiaries Libra, Libra Uruguay and CSAV Norasia are involved in container shipping. Subsidiary Sudamericana, Agencias Aereas y Maritimas S.A., provides port services and logistics in different ports of Latin America.
