CTSA announces peak season surcharge

CTSA announces peak season surcharge Member shipping lines in the Canada Transpacific Stabilization Agreement said that, in anticipation of extraordinary costs during a strong peak season ahead this year, they have introduced a peak season surcharge of $400 per FEU.
   The new surcharge will be in effect from June 15 through Oct. 15.
   CTSA said in a statement that container lines expect close to 10 percent cargo growth in the transpacific market from Asia to North America in 2007, and while overall capacity is likely to increase proportionately, consolidation of transpacific strings in light of rising operating costs may lead to tight space during peak months.
   The peak season surcharge is intended to address higher costs for drayage, cargo handling and storage, equipment positioning and other contingencies resulting from expected cargo surges and related congestion, the organization said.
