Customs-free Dubai air/sea link opens    A corridor linking the Jebel Ali Port in Dubai with that city's huge new airport has opened this month.
   The Dubai Logistics Corridor links the port, the Jebel Ali Free Zone and Dubai World Central, a massive new airport and logistics complex at which cargo activities began in June. The corridor is essentially a physical area linking Dubai's goods movement infrastructure in a contiguous 200-square-kilometer zone. Dubai’s previous cargo airport at the Dubai International Airport is located much farther away from the port, nearer the central part of the city. Passenger operations at the new airport will begin in March.
   The major benefit to shippers and their logistics providers is the ability to move seamlessly between airport and seaport without having to clear customs.
   “One of the important outcomes of the launch of the corridor is the improvement in the flow of sea-to-air cargo by eliminating the processes of exit and entry from one zone to another,” said Salma Hareb, chief executive of Economic Zones World and chairman of the Dubai Logistics Corridor. “Additionally, there will be a potential elimination of double customs inspection.”
