U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the pest (Latin name Aulacobaris coerulescens) was intercepted in a shipping container of Italian tile. Agriculture specialists at the port also intercepted a Paromius seed bug for the first time in the mid-Atlantic area from southern New Jersey to northern Virginia.
The shipments were fumigated to kill off any remaining pests before they were allowed to enter U.S. commerce.
