CYKH amends Asia/U.S. East Coast network

CYKH amends Asia/U.S. East Coast network    CKYH Alliance carriers said Monday they are amending their service network between the Far East and U.S. East Coast at the end of April.
   Three of the alliance’s five services in the trade are affected, most notably the AWE-5 service, which will sail via the Suez Canal rather than via the Panama Canal, and use bigger ships.
   The other two services affected by the changes are the AWE-2 and AWE-3, which will see changes in port rotation. CKYH members are COSCO Container Lines, 'K' Line, Yang Ming, and Hanjin Shipping.
   The AWE-2 rotation will be amended to Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yokohama, Savannah, Norfolk, New York, Boston and Qingdao. The revised rotation includes a new call in Norfolk, as well as dropped eastbound calls at Lazaro Cardenas and Cristobal, according to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data. The service operates with nine COSCO vessels with an average capacity of 4,378 TEUs.
   The AWE-3 rotation will be changed to Hong Kong, Yantian, Kaohsiung, Shanghai, Busan, Savannah, Charleston, Wilmington and Hong Kong, with the call in Shanghai the only adjustment. The service operates with nine Yang Ming vessels with an average capacity of 4,402 TEUs.
   The AWE-5 rotation will change to Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Cai Mep, Singapore, New York, Norfolk, Boston, Singapore and Kaohsiung. Adjustments include new calls in Hong Kong, Cai Mep, Boston and Singapore, and dropped calls in Shanghai, Busan and Savannah. The service will sail via the Suez instead of all-water transpacific.
   Additionally, COSCO has joined Yang Ming and Hanjin as vessel providers. Each carrier will provide three vessels, with the average vessel capacity increasing from 4,157 TEUs to around 5,500 TEUs. At present, Yang Ming provides five ships on the service and Hanjin four. New World Alliance members APL and Hyundai Merchant Marine takes slots on the AWE-5, but it's not immediately clear whether they will continue on the revised service.
