Dachser forges South Africa joint venture

   Third-party logistics firm Dachser has set up a joint venture in South Africa.

   The enterprise employs 133 staff of and offers logistics services in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

   Jonen Freight Pty. Ltd. is a privately run logistics company that has been in the market for more than 30 years. Dachser has a majority shareholding in the joint undertaking, and is reinforcing its activities in the Dachser Air & Sea Logistics business segment.

   'South Africa is an attractive market and important international transport hub,' said Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics, in a statement. In addition to air and sea freight, the services portfolio includes customs clearance, warehousing and distribution.

   The joint venture will initially continue to operate within the Dachser group as Jonen Freight Pty. Ltd. The five-man management board is made up of Jonen managers Detlev and Hartmut Duve, as well as Dachser managers Reuter, Ruediger Klug and Rolf Mertins. Klug will act as chairman, and Detlev Duve will serve as vice chairman and managing director.
