Dachser revenue rises 13%

Kempten, Germany-based logistics company Dachser said it had revenue of $5.9 billion in 2011, 13 percent more than the prior year.
The company said it handled 49.3 million shipments, weighing a total of 40.9 million tons.
“Following the economic crisis and a period of recovery, the markets stabilized again somewhat last year. Dachser was able to return to the growth trend we have defined as ideal for long-term business expansion,” said Bernhard Simon, head of Dachser’s management board, in a statement.
In 2012, Dachser expects to increase growth by double-digit rates and will invest in the expansion of its European and international network. Over the next five years, the company intends to invest an estimated $1.7 billion in its European overland transport network alone.
The company has 21,000 employees, including 12,400 in Germany.
Dachser said its international air and sea logistics business had revenue for the first time of more than $1.5 billion last year, representing growth of 17 percent. Its European logistics unit had revenue of $3.7 billion and its food logistics business had revenue in 2011 of $772 million, a 16 percent increase.
The company’s U.S. arm, Dachser Transport of America, is based in Atlanta and has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Boston, Miami, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Charlotte, Dallas and Atlanta.
