Damco joins RFID group    Damco, the logistics arm of A.P. Moller – Maersk, has joined the DASH7 Alliance, a coalition of organizations promoting a standard for wireless sensor networks.
   The alliance, which includes some 40 companies, works to advance development of the ISO 18000-7 or “DASH7” standard.
   Damco's 'involvement in the DASH7 Alliance will greatly advance our efforts to establish DASH7 as the de facto standard for any commercial organization that wants better knowledge as to the whereabouts and condition of its people, assets and cargo,” said Patrick Burns, president of the DASH7 Alliance.
   DASH7 is a wireless sensor networking technology that evolved from radio frequency identification and sensing technologies used in the defense industry.
   The alliance said the military extensively uses DASH7 to track ocean cargo shipments, because of its long range, 10-year battery life and ability to penetrate water, concrete and other materials that can block other radio frequency signals. To meet the needs of commercial shipping and supply chain industries, the alliance recently formed the container sensing and security initiative to define the next generation of cargo container tracking and monitoring devices.
