Davies Turner increases garment trailer fleet for U.K./Morocco trade

Davies Turner increases garment trailer fleet for U.K./Morocco trade British freight forwarder Davies Turner will expand its fleet of Krone hanging garment trailers to serve the growing garment trade between Morocco in North Africa and the United Kingdom.
The company has already entered its first batch of 20 trailers into the trade lane, and a further 10 are due for delivery later this month. The trailers will be positioned at Davies Turner's five main U.K. surface freight hubs in Birmingham, Bristol, Cumbernauld, Dartford and Manchester.
Philip Stephenson, joint managing director of Davies Turner, said more of the trailers will follow as the company seeks to take advantage of the revival of the garment trade with Morocco, which had suffered from increased competition from the Far East and the end of the World Trade Organization’s Multi Fiber Agreement (MFA) that imposed quotas on developing countries exports until Jan. 1, 2005. The quicker and more flexible response possible with deliveries sourced in North Africa now more than compensates for this, said Stephenson, while Morocco's growing prosperity is also reflected in increased imports.
'Morocco was one of our major success stories in 2007,” he said. “These trailers, while still new, have proved very successful and have definitely earned their keep with a good balance of loads both north and southbound.
'The primary reason for going with Krone is that its trailers have steel walls, doors and roofs and offer really superior protection from break-ins or stowaways, which are both major concerns when loading takes place in Morocco. The trailers are fitted with satellite tracking and have a satellite monitored door security system.'
