Davis starts second term as MEBA president The Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association membership has confirmed Ron Davis for a second term as president of the U.S. maritime union.
   No other president of MEBA has served a second consecutive term in nearly two decades.
   All 14 candidates on Davis’ ticket were re-elected. Joining Davis on the union’s District Executive Committee are Cecil McIntyre, secretary-treasurer; Don Keefe, Atlantic Coast vice president; Bud Jacque, executive vice president; and John McCurdy, Gulf Coast vice president. All are returning to serve for another term except McCurdy, who ascends to the committee following nine years as an official in MEBA’s Seattle union hall including six as branch agent.
   Davis is considered one of the most successful MEBA presidents in years. During his first three years, the union re-established itself in the Great Lakes — the birthplace of the union — by way of a long-term contract with Interlake Steamship Co. MEBA also gained officer jobs aboard the Norwegian Cruise-America passenger vessel fleet.
   At the same time, he brokered an agreement to preserve the MEBA jobs aboard the 15 Maritime Security Program vessels operated by U.S. Ship Management that will be directly operated by Maersk Line Ltd.
