DB Schenker ups Polish ports investment       DB Schenker said it will purchase new equipment for container terminals it manages at two Polish ports on the Baltic Sea.
      DB Schenker Rail Polska will expand facilities at the Szczecin and Swinoujscie ports spending 22.5 million euros through 2018 on new wharfs and cranes.
      'Through this investment, we are aiming to greatly increase the transshipment capacity over the medium term and participate in the growth in the exchange of goods via the ports,' said Hans-Georg Werner, chief executive officer of DB Schenker Rail Polska.
      The DB Schenker subsidiary transships containers, less-than-containerload freight, paper and cellulose, granite, steel and other goods at the ports and carries out project business for heavy cargo.
      Two new gantry cranes have already been installed in Szczecin, with DB Schenker to begin operating the new container terminal in the fall. The terminal will have an annual capacity of up to 220,000 TEUs, more than doubling the transshipment capacity of DB Port Szczecin.
