DBS launches new UK rail service

DB Schenker Rail UK partnered with Imerys and S. Walsh & Sons to transport aggregates from Burngullow, Cornwall to Stratford, London.

DB Schenker Rail UK launched its first service June 15 from Burngullow near St. Austell in Cornwall to Stratford, London, transporting aggregates produced by Imerys on behalf of the London-based construction company, S. Walsh & Sons.
DBS said in a statement the aggregates are a by-product from china clay. Every ton of china clay can produce between five and nine tons of waste materials, a significant proportion of which can be used as a secondary aggregate.
Each train will carry 1,200 tons of Cornish granite to DB Schenker Rail UK’s construction hub in Stratford.
DB Schenker Rail has been working with Imerys and S. Walsh & Sons for the past 18 months to develop a cost effect means of transport for the eco-friendly materials.
