Delaware Bay ports to compete for security grants    The Delaware Bay Area Maritime Security Committee said it is accepting applications for more than $18 million in available port security grants.
   The Department of Homeland Security made $388.6 million available for port security grants in fiscal year 2009. Money is divided among participating ports based on their risk category.
   Some ports, such as in the tri-state Delaware Bay region, are applying collectively through a designated fiduciary agent. Instead of competing nationally for grants, port stakeholders will compete within their region. The Delaware Bay Area Maritime Security Committee, supervised by the Coast Guard, will disburse $18 million in grant funding.
   Grants will be awarded to projects that help plug gaps identified in a vulnerability assessment completed last year. Money can go for training, technology and infrastructure that can help prevent a terrorist attack.
   Applications are due on May 18.
