Delta leaves bankruptcy
Delta Airlines emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday one year ahead of schedule after a restructuring that took 19 months and $3 billion.
The move leaves Northwest Airlines as the only major U.S. airline still under bankruptcy protection. It is expected to return to normal operations in June.
Delta cut unprofitable routes, eliminated thousands of jobs and restructured union contracts, and added 60 international routes because of their higher profitability compared to domestic routes. Earlier this year it thwarted a takeover attempt by US Airways.
