Delta Q2 cargo revenue down 1%

   In the second quarter, Delta Air Lines’ cargo revenue fell 1 percent to $230 million, on what officials said were “lower freight yields were partially offset by higher volumes.”
   Cargo revenue fell 5 percent during the first six months of the year, when compared to the same period in 2013.
   Total operating revenue stood at $10.6 billion, a year-over-year increase of 9 percent. Delta said its quarterly net income was $889 million.
   As for any carrier, fuel is a major piece of the operating cost equation for Delta, but the carrier saw its fuel expense in the second quarter fall by $168 million, year-over-year, due to what it said were benefits from hedging and “market adjustments that offset higher market fuel prices and higher consumption.” The carrier also received a $13 million profit in the quarter at its refinery, which came out to a year-over-year boost of $64 million. The subsidiary that operates the refinery signed on Tuesday a deal with Bridger for the company to supply 65,000 barrels of crude per day for five years.
