Descartes acquires GeoMicro

   Descartes Systems Group has acquired GeoMicro, a California-based provider of geographic information systems (GIS) and turn-by-turn navigation services.
   GeoMicro’s GIS platform facilitates advanced routing, navigation, field services, geo-location, high-performance map display, spatial data querying, and turn-by-turn directions for both commercial and hazardous materials.
   “Geographic location is fundamental to logistics and a key element of many business decisions,” said Edward Ryan, chief commercial officer at Descartes.
   The companies said GIS programs are typically paired with mobile management applications to update routes and provide directions, which Descartes will continue by adding the service to its routing, mobile, and telematics offerings. Descartes also hopes for integration with its logistics technology platform to add support for address verification and the tracking of shipments, inventory, and resources.
