Descartes acquires Routing International

   The logistics network Descartes Systems has acquired privately held Belgian firm Routing International, a developer and distributor of optimized route planning software.

   Routing International’s software join Descartes’ MRM 2.0 suite, which combine optimized real-time planning with wireless mobile technology to manage resources in motion.

   Routing International is headquartered in Brussels and also has offices in the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, and Spain. It has about 22 employees. To complete the acquisition, net of cash received, Waterloo, Ontario-based Descartes paid about 3.3 million euro ($4.1 million) plus transaction expenses.

   Daniel Verougstraete, former chief executive of Routing International has become vice president, MRM for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Descartes.

   He said the deal “expands Descartes’ MRM 2.0 size, reach and scope in Europe. Combined, we have an end-to-end product footprint and local operations to service small to large enterprises in Europe.”
