Descartes joins IATA e-freight program as strategic partner

Canadian supply chain software firm Descartes Systems Group has joined the International Air Transport Association's e-freight program, designed to move air cargo towards an electronic, paper-free commercial environment, as a preferred strategic partner.

Descartes' own Global Logistics Network (GLN) solutions for airlines and freight forwarders are aligned with the critical foundations for the e-freight project, namely the IATA e-freight Message Improvement Program.

'By supporting IATA's e-freight initiative as we enhance our own air cargo messaging services, we are taking a global approach to addressing the needs of our customers,' said Edward Ryan, general manager of Descartes' GLN.

Patrick Murray, systems manager IATA e-freight, said: 'We look forward to Descartes' participation in supporting the IATA e-freight Message Improvement Program, supporting the pilots and supporting the e-freight vision.

'As one of our partners, Descartes will help improve message quality, develop global standards and implement global systems for trading partners which, in turn, will lead to industry cost savings and add value to the e-freight solutions to be offered,' Murray said.
