Descartes launches mobile Android solution

   Descartes Systems Group, a worldwide provider of logistics services, has announced that its MobileLink GPS-based solution for managing mobile workers is now available for the Android operating system.
   The MobileLink service is already being used to manage thousands of drivers and mobile workers, said Sergio Torres, Descartes’ vice president of product management. Torres said the expansion to the Android platform is to expand the mobile service to more customers as Android has become the most widely deployed smartphone operating system in the world.
   Customers can sync the MobileLink with Descartes’ cloud-based Wireless Global Logistics Network and routing applications, allowing them to perform dynamic dispatching and tracking of drivers and resources in the field. The service is part of Descartes’ Routing, Mobile and Telematics suite which has an overall goal of improved fleet management, performance, and customer service.
   Through Descartes’ Wireless Global Logistics Network, MobileLink communicates bi-directionally and in real-time with Descartes’ route planning and execution services and customer backend systems. The global network currently integrates more than 35,000 trading partners with the company’s logistics platforms.
