DEUTSCHE POST CONSIDERING ACQUISITIONS IN U.S., ASIA?
A German investment magazine reported that Deutsche Post, the German express and logistics company, is considering acquisitions in the United States and Asia.
Die Teleboerse reported that Klaus Zumwinkel, Deutsche Post's chief executive officer, said, 'We would be bad business people if we didn't very thoroughly check out opportunities in the United States and, I emphasize, also in Asia.'
Zumwinkel would not comment on questions from the investment magazine on whether Deutsche Post was interested in acquiring Airborne Inc., the third-largest express carrier in the American market.
A spokesman for Deutsche Post in Germany downplayed the comments, noting that Zumwinkel was merely pointing out the company would consider possible acquisitions.
