DFDS snaps up Sweden/U.K. service from Cobelfret

Danish short-sea operator DFDS A/S will acquire the shipping service presently operated by Cobelfret AB between Gothenburg, Sweden, and Killingholme in the United Kingdom, effective June 14. Financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.

DFDS will name the service “HumberBridge” and replace calls on the service in the United Kingdom from Killingholme to Immingham. DFDS will also time-charter the two roll-on/roll-off vessels currently operated by Cobelfret on the line for a 12-month period.

The “HumberBridge” service will operate parallel to the existing DFDS Tor Line Gothenburg/Immingham “AngloBridge” service, which includes seven sailings per week each way.

DFDS said it does not expect the acquisition of the Cobelfret service to have a significant influence on its forecasted financial results for fiscal 2005.
