DHL adds flexitanks

   DHL Global Forwarding has introduced the flexitank, a container specially designed for the transport of bulk non-hazardous liquids, to its operations.
   Shippers can use flexitanks for the transport of chemicals; consumer goods, such as beverages and concentrates; life sciences-related cargo like enzymes; and bio-fuels.
   DHL’s new tanks can hold up to 24,000 liters and can fit in a 20-foot ocean container. Flexitanks also have more space than traditional liquid shipping materials — shippers can send more than 31 percent more cargo than with an intermodal container — and require less packaging.
   “The manufacturing quality and reliability of flexitanks have improved significantly over the past few years, which is especially useful for our chemical-sector customers when shipping goods in vast volumes,” DHL Global Forwarding’s Dominique von Orelli said in a statement.
   DHL calls the flexitank recyclable, which means shippers can use the containers for one-way shipping and don’t have to think about a return load, as with ISO containers. – Jon Ross
