DHL building European mail-order distribution center in Ludwigsau

DHL Exel Supply Chain is constructing a new distribution center for European mail-order customers in Ludwigsau, Germany, to replace a leased property, located in nearby Bad Hersfeld.

The new distribution center will open in the summer with 35,000 square meters of indoor space and a total area of about 100,000 square meters. It will be operated by DHL's subsidiary GPL, a mail-order logistics company handling bulky and transport-sensitive goods.

The business in Bad Hersfeld as well as the employees will be transferred to Ludwigsau, DHL said.

'We want to expand our mail-order business and offer our customers innovative solutions, which enhance the quality and profitability of their logistics processes,' said Stefan Kurrle, responsible for DHL Exel Supply Chain in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. 'The Ludwigsau location offers ideal prerequisites for implementing our concepts of storage and distribution of heavy goods.'
